Text Box: LUNA would like to bid farewell to two very dedicated Board Members who in January resigned their positions on the Board of Directors. Angela Guzman and Mirta Reyes-Chapman were two board member that showed their dedication to the organization through their attendance at board meetings, participation in the Networking Mixers and their willingness to give of themselves. Angela served on the Youth Committee and Mirta on the Fundraising Committee for the Wine, Wine Not Fundraiser. Although they have resigned due to work and school obligations both have expressed their interest in continuing their involvement with LUNA. I want to express my sincere thanks and that of the board to the two of them for their support, ideas and commitment to LUNA. Fran Wilson previously the second vice –chair is now serving as first vice chair and Maria Martinez was unanimously voted in as second vice-chair.

Text Box: Luna, Planning time: Text Box: On January 8, 2005, LUNA board members gathered at Denny’s on Belmont Avenue for two purposes: 1. Non-profit Board Training and 2. Strategic Mapping Session, to set their direction for the next two years. The group were trained on the Legal Duties of Board Members, giving them the understanding of Ohio’s expectation of Non-Profit Boards. As part of the Strategic Planning Process the board members reviewed their Vision, and Mission Statements as well as their goals and benefits making adjustments as necessary to their brochure and membership benefits. As part of the process the group engaged in a SWOT Analysis—Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats individually and then shared with the group and coming to a consensus on what they in each analysis area. Through this process the board members identified some Governing Text Box: Strategic Destinations:, as well as Programmatic Strategic Destinations, developing strategies and activities to address these. If anyone is interested in serving on any one of the following committees, becoming a member, interested in board membership please feel free to contact Fran Wilson at 330-545-2033 or Wilma Torres, Chair at 330-744-2596. Board Committees include: Networking Mixers, Publicity & Marketing, Resource Development, Fundraising Events, Finance and Youth. February’s Networking Mixer featured a Mardi Gras theme, with a film on New Orleans, Masks, Music and refreshments consisting of King Cake and Swamp Water. Prizes were given throughout the night.
